Fantasy Football Update

9642-football:

So we are nearing the end of the season, and whilst I will leave the discussion of the real football that has happened to a later date (and hopefully podcast) I thought an update on our Fantasy Football league was in order.

The table has been updated now, so feel free to go have a look.

There is still a race at the top of the table with Dewtastic on 73 points and Edster’s Dream Team 5 points behind on 68 points. However Dewtastic will likely clinch the title and the 2nd 9642 Fantasy League Trophy and it’s associated prize either this weekend against Forever Fan, or in the last week against Waitakere Warriors.

The race for second is a bit closer, with Eddie facing a tough battle with Old Warsonians. There is only 1 point that separates them on the table, but they face off this weekend! If Eddie can win then he will have clinched 2nd; however it is not all over if he loses as Warsong will face Forever Fans whilst Eddie will face my team. Last week Eddie outscored Warsong 51 points to 47, but that is only a small margin and makes this coming week too close to call. The game may come down to how Spurs take their missing out on the top spot in the real league as Warsong has 3 Spurs players in his side and Eddie has none, and how the teams with two games go over the double header. I will back Warsong to take 2nd spot, with Eddie in 3rd come the end of the season.

Further down the table it there is a battle for 4th between Mr Average and the The Melon Farmer’s El Baconi’s Diablos, with only 1 point separating them. Both The Melon Farmer and Mr Average also have a mathematical chance to take 3rd being only 5 & 4 points behind respectively. Mr Average will face wooden spoon winner Soccer! this week in a guaranteed 3 point win for the Average, with the El Baconi’s Diablos facing the Waitakere Warriors. I think both teams will take their 3 points, leaving it to the last week where they face each other to determine 4th spot.  I am backing the Melon Farmer to pull this off, leaving the top 4 places filled by Human players; Dewtastic then Warsong, Eddie and finally El Baconi.

The bottom two places have been decided, with Soccer! taking out the wooden spoon & Forever Fan in 11th. The two IC n00bs have had a season much like their IC careers, full of inactivity and

amateurishness.

Places 6-10 are a bit more interesting, although really only Dr United, Waitakere Warriors and Ninja Monkeys will determine spots 6-8 with A Stab in the Dark and myself to sort out 9 & 10.

Any of the 3 players currently in 6th,7th or 8th palce could end up in any of those positions, although Dr.UNITED and Waitakere Warriors should be favourites to end up in the 6 & 7 spots, however with the games to be played by these players this is not as straight forward. There is also an outside possibility that either my Fools or A Stab in the Dark could overtake Ninja Monkeys, however I think this unlikely.

Dr United & Ninja Monkey’s probably have the best set of games, although they both need to play each other this week. Ninja should get the 3 points in the last week, so if he wins against DR. United he will have 55 points total, and I think this likely as Dr United has had a poor end to the season having not won since week 28. Waitakere Warriors has the hardest set of games, playing two top 5 teams in Elbaconi’s Diablos and Dewtastic so seems unlikely to take any points from those games and will probably end on the 52 points he has gathered so far, he also has by far the worst goal differential of anyone of not called Soccer!.

The last two teams in the list are my Chelski Fools and A Stab in the Dark. We also play each other this week, then have a moderately difficult last game. I would like to back myself this weekend, as well as against Eddie (despite my poor form against him this year.)

This will mean that Ninja will be 6th with 55 points,  Dr United in 7th on 52 points, Waitakere Warriors in 8th also on 52 points (and thus taking the Hiroshi Sato Memorial League Trophy), myself in 9th on 51  and a Stab in the Dark in 10th on 48 points.
