So it is that time again, where we all sit down in front of a TV and watch 22 men kick a ball around whilst we scream and yell. Then later we talk about it, and then talk some more. Unlike the common times this special golden times are filled more with optimism and hope, and less with criticism or derision. For it is world cup time and so there will be drama, disappointment and glory, as well as a whole cast of villains, fools and heroes. I will state here and now that I am a big supporter of Argentina and fully believe that they will go all the way to world cup glory, even beating Brazil in the final in front of a stadium full of fans from both countries. My erstwhile colleague and fellow contributor and podcast voice has a different opinion and thoughts on how the tournament will pan out, and I am sure he will enlighten and entertain us all in his own column and in the pod cast.
Of course that is why we are here, to discuss and analyse the beautiful game as it is played at the highest level. This is what Numbernine and I do every day, albeit on the lesser stages of European football leagues, in particular the English Premier League. Now in the normal course of existence the two of us would just watch the games and talk with each other, possibly arguing, probably proving each other wrong and definitely dragging in any other football lover we know, or even those we don’t. It was during the climax of the latest Premier league season that Numbernine came up with a great weird idea to revive our old collaborative project of NineSixFourTwo, but to change it from a web comic to a podcast and blog about the upcoming world cup where we can discuss and argue to our hearts content. I was intrigued, and knowing that I didn’t have the time to dedicate to this project, I agreed wholeheartedly and started to design the website and research further into the squads, by which I mean I played Football Manager 2014.
Thus we are here and we are writing these posts and are preparing our first podcast, and will continue over the next month and a half as the tournament runs in Brazil watched by hundreds of millions, if not billions of people. Blog posts should come in once to twice a week, possibly more when the games are on, whilst podcasts will be once a week on a Sunday. Fairly soon should be the first podcast, which will talk about the pools and our picks for the tournament. Next podcast will be next week and discuss the confirmed 23 man squads in more depth and how the choices made by the managers will affect the chances of the team.
Finally some administrative items; please note the links near the top of the page. The football podcast link will take you to the pages that hold the pod casts, obviously. The webcomic link is a memorial to the failed project of the past. Feedback is always welcome and as such, if you have criticism or hate mail to send our way you can send this from the contact page as well.
Till next time
The Fool
