The NineSixFourTwo Fantasy League Season 4 – Gameweek 7 Results

Also ready for review is our standard fantasy league, where not much has changed on the updated table. The only changes being the dropping of my Chelski Fools from 2nd to 4th, with Brummie Bumblers and Dewtastic moving up 1 place each to be 2nd and 3rd respectively. Other than that the table has stayed the same, although there has been a tightening up of the table with 4 teams from 3rd to 6th now on 12 points (Dewtastic, Teh Chelski Fools, West Side Warrior & Men Behaving Chadli). These four are only 3 points behind Brummie Bumblers in 2nd, and only 3 points ahead of I Don’t Like Football in 7th. Meanwhile, Skivers United has pulled out in front, now on 18 points, 3 points ahead of the Bumblers. At the other end of the table. Giroudsandstorm remains rooted to the bottom of the table on 3 points, with Old Warsonians and Edster’s Dreamteam just above him on 6 points.

The first game in the standard league was between I Don’t Like Football and Skivers Utd. The predicted thrashing of I Don’t Like Football at the hands of Skivers did eventuate, with once again I Don’t Like Football having 10 players not scoring any points at all, to rack up a game week and season low point total of just 14 points. Meanwhile Skivers United had his captain as Harry Kane, who scored enough points (26) for Skivers to beat I Don’t Like Football on his own, let alone the rest of the team.

The second game of the week was a high scoring thriller between Number Nine’s West Side Warrior and Old Warsonians. This is the second game of the season where both teams have scored 60+ points, and both games have involved Old Warsonians losing said games, which also went to show that my predictive powers do have limits. The surprising thing about the result was that West Side Warrior managed to score 67 points with only 10 scoring players on the pitch, and his captain (Chicharito) only scoring 4 points when he had Kane in his team (13 points), whilst Old Warsonians scored 64 with 4 players scoring 2 points or less, and 2 others only scoring 3 points. In the end the fact Number Nine had 3 dream team players in his squad (Kane, De Bruyne & Schmeichel) vs Old Warsonains 2 (Bellerin & Davies) was the difference in the teams.

In the third game of the week, Dewtastic easily accounted for the poor performing Edster’s Dreamteam. This was the third game where the winning team scored 60+ points, and was the highest scoring team of the round in Dewtastic. On the positive side for Edster’s Dreamteam, they did manage to score over 40 points, which I consider to be a competitive score (and was also better than Mr Average in the draft league). In any case, this game ended up being a case of Dewtastic having a better captain in Kane with 26 points against Lukaku with 12 points, and the second best scorers with Dewtastic having Davies score 16 points vs Eddy’s De Bruyne with 11 points. Dewtastic also had 2 defenders score 6 points, whilst Eddy only had 1 defender keep a clean sheet, and had Kompany be on the field when he didn’t play, as well as Zanka have a net 0 score.

The 4th game of the week was between the impressive Brummie Bumblers and bottom of the pile Giroudsandstorm. This week Giroudsandstrom managed to show some restraint on the transfer market, and so did not have a large negative to have to offset, and even brought in a high scorer in Davies, but ultimately had to many players score 2 points or less (7, 8 if you count captain Vardy’s total haul of 4 points) plus one other player with only 3 points. The picking of Vardy as captain also was a poor choice, as if he had gone with Davies he would have been much closer to Brummie Bumblers (albeit still short of the 64 points needed to win). Brummie Bumblers on the other hand had Harry Kane as captain, so like all other teams that had also chosen Kane as captain, easily topped 60 points.  The Bumblers had  only 4 players score 2 points or less, and 2 further players score only 3 points. He also had 3 defenders with clean sheets, as well as 10 points from Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucouré. In the end this was an easy win for the Bumblers, allowing them to move into 2nd spot on the table.

The last game of the week was the only game to not include a team scoring more than 60 points, and also the only game to include neither team having Kane as captain (although I had him in the side). My loss to Men Behaving Chadli also showed my predictive powers up for the biased ramblings they really are (although between the draft league and this one I only managed to get two game wrong out of 11). This game really came down to choice of captain, with Men Behaving Chadli getting a total of 12 points from their captain Lukakku, whilst I had given Morata the captain’s armband over Kane, and paid for it dearly. Men Behaving Chadli could have only increased their point total by 4 if they had a fully optimised playing 11 based on their squad (Davies being captain over Lukaku), whilst I left 20 points behind through bad choice of captain and players left on the bench. That will teach me to bet on Chelsea being able to beat Manchester City.
