So the new season of the premier league has started and we are five games in, which means we are also five games into our new Fantasy Leagues. Both the standard fantasy and the draft league are going strong and some intense games have already occurred, so I thought it best to have a bit of a review of the start of the fantasy season in both leagues. A reminder that you can see the tables if you click on the Fantasy Football Table link or the Fantasy Draft Football Table link. I thought i would start with the longer running of the leagues, the standard points buy league., and is continued below…
The NineSixFourTwo Fantasy League (Season Four)
This format is now into it’s fourth season, having been won by 3 different managers so far (although the first year’s winner was lost to the annuals of time and my poor ability to look before the game was reset). This year we have 10 teams, with some new faces and seasoned veterans. The most surprising bit is that last year’s champion, Gareth John of Bluetastic did not enter the league before the cut off and so will not be defending his crown (although he is in the Draft League). That means that the crown is up for grabs this year, and so far it is a close run thing.
The returning teams are, Skivers United (5th last year), Dewtastic (3rd), Brummie Bumblers (4th), Edster’s Dreamteam (6th) and Old Warsonians (2nd), along with Number Nine’s West Side Warriors (10th as Waitakere Wizards), and my Teh Chelski Fools (11th). All these teams have played in at least 2 seasons so far, of not all three previous seasons, so are well experienced in how to make the fantasy system work for them. So far all seven returning teams are occupying the seven top spots in the league, leaving the new players at the bottom of the pile. These new teams are Men Behaving Chadli (an IC n00b I think), I don’t like football (definitely an IC n00b) and Giroudsandstorm, who is another of my cousins, and the baby brother of Dewtastic.
So far this year Skivers United has started the best, with 4 wins and 1 loss to sit in the number one spot with 12 points. His wins have come against, Dewtastic, Edster’s Dreamteam, Giroudsandstorm and my own Teh Chelski Fools, with his only loss coming in gameweek 1 against the Brummie Battlers. The next four teams are all tied on nine points, with Dewtastic with the best goal difference in the league so far of +65, ahead of West Side Warrior (+20), Teh Chelski Fools (+14) and the Brummie Bumblers (-7). Edster’s Dreamteam (+21), Old Warsonians (-15), Men Behaving Chadli (-23) and I Don’t Like Football (-51) are all on 6 points, whilst Giroudsandstorm (-56) is in last place on 3 points.
So far there have been no draws, but several close thrillers. The closest so far was the low scoring nail-biter between Dewtastic and Skivers United in the 2nd round, with Skivers edging Dewtastic 31-30. In the same week the Brummie Bumblers beat Old Warsonians 42-40 in another close game. My Chelski Fools continued our dominance of Number NIne’s teams in the 9642 derby, winning 49-46 in week 4 over the West Side Warriors. However, the West Side Warriors were able to beat Giroudsandstorm by 3 points last week, 50-47, whilst Brummie Battlers defeated Dewtastic 54-52 as well. Overall, however, the winning team has averaged a 14 point buffer over the losing team, with the biggest margin being Dewtastic’s drumming of I Don’t Like Football, 53-17.
Five teams have managed 60+ scores so far this season, Edster’s Dream Team (68-50 winners over Teh Chelski Fools), Giroudsandstorm (78-60 winners over Old Warsonians) and Skivers United (61-29 winners over Giroudsandstorm). Other than Skivers United, all the other 60+ scores came in the first week, which also featured the only game to have both teams score 60+ points. Giroudsandstorm is also the only team to have both scored 60+ points in a game, and have 60+ points scored against them.
Anyway that is it for me now, I will also hopefully post about the draft league, as well as more previews of the coming games.
